HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's hockey registered its second shutout of the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Union in an ECAC Hockey contest at Thompson Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Big Green improved to 4-2-2 and 4-1-2 in conference action, while the Dutchwomen remain winless with a 0-9-4 overall record and a 0-4-2 mark in league play.
Senior Lindsey Allen scored the game winner very early in the second period, while classmate Ailish Forfar added the insurance goal near the end of the third. Classmate Laura Stacey and junior Eleni Tebano picked up assists on the first marker as well.
“I think this was a really good team shutout,” head coach Mark Hudak said. “The kids did a good job sticking with the game plan and didn't allow themselves to get overly frustrated when we were struggling to put the puck in. Overall, this was a really good weekend for us.
At 7:15 in the first, Union netminder Melissa Black was peppered with four consecutive shots, but the rookie Dutchwoman was able to stop all of them to keep the game scoreless. Junior Kennedy Ottenbreit gave Dartmouth another opportunity a few minutes later, but her shot hit off the left pipe. Overall, the Green outshot the visitors, 13-1 in the scoreless first period.
Just 32 seconds into the second, Allen broke the 0-0 draw with her sixth tally of the season. Tebano received the puck from Stacey and fired from the blue line, but her shot was saved by Black. Before the goalie could get back to her post, Allen tipped the puck into the left corner.
At 14:30 in the third, freshman Tess Bracken almost got her first collegiate goal when her shot bounced off the right pipe. At 18:39, after the Dutchwomen had pulled their goalie in an attempt to get on the board, Forfar intercepted the play heading in the opposite direction and scored an empty netter to end the game.
Dartmouth had an impressive 40-9 shot advantage. The penalty box attendants had an incredibly quiet afternoon, as neither team drew a single penalty the entire 60 minutes. Between the pipes, junior Robyn Chemago earned her third shutout of the season by making nine saves, while Black stopped 38 shots in the loss.
The Big Green will not return to action until Nov. 27-28, when they head to the Badger State to take on No. 1 Wisconsin in a pair of games.
