PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Dartmouth women's hockey shut out Brown, 4-0, in its first road game of 2015-16 at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.
The Big Green improved to 2-1-1 both overall and in ECAC Hockey play, while the Bears remain winless with a record of 0-5-0 and 0-3-0 in conference action. Dartmouth is a perfect 2-0-0 against Ivy League teams so far this season.
Senior Laura Stacey netted her first two goals of the season to end the night with two points, while five other Dartmouth players tallied a point. Junior netminder Robyn Chemago earned her first shutout of the season, making 22 saves throughout the game.
“The team played well tonight,” head coach Mark Hudak said. “Robyn had a great night in net and really earned the shutout.”
Although the first period was quiet, a three-goal second period more than made up for it. Just three minutes in, senior Lindsey Allen picked up the puck and carried it all the way down the ice, preparing to shoot at Monica Elvin in net. A Brown defender seemingly appeared out of nowhere and knocked the puck out of danger, only to send it directly to junior Kennedy Ottenbreit, who shot through Elvin's legs to score the game-winner at 3:23.
Brown had a chance at a goal at 10:55, but her shot was saved by Chemago at close range. The Big Green quickly countered and moved the puck up the ice in a hurry, which resulted in Stacey's power-play marker from the blueline at 11:07, with the assist going to junior Eleni Tebano.
Freshman Alyssa Baker scored her first collegiate goal at 17:30 on a breakaway, stealing the puck off a Bear's stick and skating around two others to shoot to the left of Elvin and give Dartmouth a 3-0 lead heading into the third. At 13:56 in the third, sophomore Brooke Ahbe raced after a loose puck and blindly passed it backwards to Stacey, who shot to the left of the net.
Dartmouth outshot Brown, 38-22, and went 1-for-2 on the power play, while the Bears were 0-for-5. Chemago picked up her second win of the year, while Elvin stopped 34 shots in the loss.
The Green will return to action on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game against Union.
