HAMDEN, Conn. – In its third of five consecutive road games, the Dartmouth women's hockey team fell to No. 4/4 Quinnipiac, 7-1, inside the High Point Solutions Arena on Friday evening. The Big Green dipped to 4-5-2 and 4-2-2 in ECAC Hockey play, while the Bobcats improved to 12-1-3 and 6-1-2 in conference action.
Senior Laura Stacey netted Dartmouth's only goal of the game, with the assist going to classmate Lindsey Allen. Stacey led the team with six shots, while junior Kennedy Ottenbreit had four.
"This was not one of our better games," head coach Mark Hudak said. "We did not execute on the little things consistently and we took a couple of bad penalties, which put us down. We need to find a way to let this one go and get ready for the next game."
Quinnipiac took advantage of its power play opportunities, as both of its goals in the opening stanza – scored at 3:39 and 9:05 – were consequences of Dartmouth penalties. The Bobcats added one more with 23 seconds remaining to end the first period with a 3-0 edge.
The Bobcats soon made it 5-0, finding the back of the net at 7:09 and 8:25. At 11:55, Stacey got in the way of a Quinnipiac pass and fired a rocket from the right, tipping over netminder Sydney Rossman's glove and burying into the left corner. This tally broke the Bobcat goalie's four-game shutout streak that had lasted for 291 minutes. Before the close of the second, the Bobcats got one more to make it 6-1.
Quinnipiac got one more marker at 3:20 in the third to close the game. Dartmouth tried its hand at a few more shots, but was thwarted by Rossman each time.
The Bobcats had a 29-22 shot advantage and went 3-for-5 on the power play, while the Big Green were held to 0-for-5. In net, junior Robyn Chemago ended the night with 22 saves, while Rossman had 21.
Dartmouth will continue the weekend down in New Jersey, where it will take on conference rival Princeton at 4 p.m.
