THIS WEEK
After being on the road for the last two weekends, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will return to Scully-Fahey for a 1 p.m. conference game against No. 14 Princeton on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green dropped their second straight game last Saturday with a 10-4 loss to No. 11 Yale at Reese Stadium. Wiley Osborne had a hand in all four of Dartmouth's goals, finding the back of the net twice and assisting on the other two markers. Evan Key and Cam Lee netted the other two tallies, while fellow junior KC Beard ended the day with an assist. Yale scored four times in the first quarter, while holding Dartmouth to zero goals in the opening 15 minutes. Osborne got the visitors on the board with 10:54 remaining in the second to lessen the Bulldogs' lead to three, but the home team went on to score two more to increase its lead. With 2:15 to play, Key netted his third of the season following a pass from Osborne and Yale entered the second half with a 6-3 lead. A combined six goals were scored in the second half, all of which occurred in the third quarter. In the final quarter, Dartmouth had eight shots to Yale's four, but neither team was able to score another goal during that time.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Returning to familiar territory will be the Tiger's head coach Chris Bates, who was a captain and an All-Ivy player that graduated from Dartmouth in 1990. Although Princeton has lost three in a row to Brown (10-8), Stony Brook (13-10) and Lehigh (16-15), it has had close victories over strong teams such as Johns Hopkins (16-15 OT), Rutgers (12-11) and Yale (11-10). Leading the team by a landslide is Mike MacDonald with 33 goals and 21 assists for 54 points, wrapping up Tuesday's game against Lehigh with five markers and one assist. He is also tied for first on the team with Kip Orban with five man-up markers.
LAST TIME AGAINST PRINCETON
Dartmouth fought to the very end, but eventually succumbed to No. 15 Princeton, 13-10, on April 12, 2014 at Sherrer Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. Jake Weil scored four goals in the contest to lead all players, but it would not be enough to overcome the opportunistic timely scoring of the Tigers. The home team took an 8-4 lead into halftime thanks in large part to two separate 3-0 runs in each of the first two quarters of play. However, the Green made the proper halftime adjustments that saw them come back to the field and outscore the Tigers, 6-5, over the course of the final 30 minutes.
LEADING THE WAY
After a pair of goals and assists on Saturday, Osborne remains first on the team with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. Jack Korzelius and Adam Fishman follow behind with 13 and 10 tallies, respectively. Phil Hession leads the Big Green with 51 groundballs and is currently 70-for-120 on the face-off.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
So far this year, Blair Friedensohn has started all eight games, making 76 saves while allowing 90 goals, has a 12.61 goals against average and a .458 save percentage. He is currently 2-5 on the season. Colin Heffernan has appeared in three contests in 2015, making three saves and allowing nine markers, getting his first win of the year against Wagner on March 7. He has a 9.42 goals against average and a .250 save percentage. Vandenberg made his collegiate debut between the pipes against Harvard, spending 2:01 in the cage.
CALLAHAN & CO.
The 2015 season is all about rebuilding. That rebuild began last summer with the hiring of Callahan, who came to Hanover after spending the last seven years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Lehigh. Callahan brought in Tucker Kear and Kevin Gould to round out the Big Green's new look on the sidelines.
FRESH FACES
Making their collegiate debut this year in the Class of 2018 are Willis Bocock, Jase Davis, Cormac Dugan, Cody George, Alex Kelly, Evan Key, Jack Korzelius, Patrick Lesch, Richie Loftus, James McJunkin, Sam Runkle, Doug Strazza and Ty Vandenberg. Korzelius leads the way with 13 markers, while Key has netted a three goals and two assists for five points.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Dartmouth will play its final road games of the season, facing NJIT at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, before traveling to Philadelphia to take on Penn at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.
