HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly baseball award winners this afternoon, and Dartmouth sophomore
Mike Concato was selected as the Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Brown on Saturday. This is the first weekly honor of the season for the Big Green, but the third for Concato in his young career.
The right-hander from Woodbridge, Connecticut, twirled a six-hit, seven-inning shutout against the Bears, striking out a career-high seven batters without issuing a walk in a
3-0 triumph in the first of four games against Brown. Of the seven batters to reach base in the contest, five were left stranded in scoring position as Concato consistently made the big pitches when he needed them most. He had nothing more than a one-run lead to work with until his offense provided him two insurance runs in the sixth. Concato then proceeded to retire the side in order on just nine pitches to close out his gem.
The shutout was the first for Concato this season and third of his career, becoming the 10th pitcher in Big Green history to record at least three shutouts. Only one has thrown as many as five, that being Jim Beattie '76, who accomplished the feat in two seasons at Dartmouth before getting selected in the fourth round of the 1975 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees.
As a freshman, Concato was named the league's co-Rookie of the Week each of the last two weeks of the regular season. He is the first Big Green pitcher to garner the weekly pitching honor since
Duncan Robinson picked it up on March 25, 2014.
Dartmouth (16-19, 12-4 Ivy), which clinched its eighth-consecutive Rolfe Division title over the weekend, returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 25 when they host the Harvard Crimson (18-19, 7-9 Ivy) in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Dartmouth will honor the Class of 2015 before the twinbill in a pregame ceremony. Both games will be streamed live through
