HANOVER, N.H. — The National College Baseball Hall of Fame announced its initial watch list for the 2015 Brooks Wallace Award on Thursday, and Dartmouth senior
Matt Parisi was the only Ivy League student-athlete among the 47 Division I players on the list. The award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions on June 29 in Lubbock, Texas.
A native of Clermont, Florida, Parisi has started 33 of the Big Green's 35 games at shortstop this season, leading the team in eight offensive categories (including his .386 on-base percentage and .481 slugging percentage), and ranking among the Ivy League's top 10 in five of those categories — doubles (16, 1st), hits (44, 6th), total bases (62, 7th), batting average (.341, 8th) and runs scored (25, 9th). He has been just as good in the field, recording a .963 fielding percentage with a mere five errors while ranking third in the conference with 90 assists.
Several conferences have multiple players on the list, led by the SEC and Pac-12, each with five. The West Coast Conference has four players on the list, while the ACC, Big South and Big West conferences each have three.
“Those are all definitely well-known conferences within Division I baseball,” said Larry Wallace, co-chair of the Wallace Award committee. “But there are 23 conferences represented on the list. There's great baseball being played all across the country, and it's great to be able to recognize that.”
Dartmouth (16-19, 12-4 Ivy), which clinched its eighth-consecutive Rolfe Division title last weekend, returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 25 when they host the Harvard Crimson (18-20, 7-9 Ivy) in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Dartmouth will honor Parisi and the rest of the Class of 2015 before the twinbill in a pregame ceremony. Both games will be streamed live through
