HANOVER, N.H. — The Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Baseball Team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball, was announced today with Dartmouth freshman reliever
Patrick Peterson among the honorees.
Peterson, an All-Ivy League First Team selection, took over the team's closing duties on the mound in 2015. The native of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, tied for the league lead with six saves while posting a 4-0 record and 3.76 ERA over 26.1 innings while striking out 24 and walking just eight. He posted a win or a save in 10 of his 13 appearances, including nine consecutive outings from March 29 through May 9. In seven Ivy appearances, he was 3-0 with a league-best four saves and a 3.97 ERA, striking out 11 in 11.1 innings. The right-hander also earned a save in the first game of the Ivy League Championship Series at Columbia by getting the final out with the tying run on third base.
Peterson is the
ninth Big Green rookie to earn this honor and sixth in the past seven seasons, including current Chicago Cub
Kyle Hendricks.
Other Ivy Leaguers named to this year's team were reliever Harrison Egly and shortstop Randall Kanemaru of Columbia, as well as reliever Mason Kukowski of Yale.
Louisville's Brendan McKay (.315, 3 HR, 32 RBI, 1.71 ERA, 8-3, 108 K) and Florida's J.J. Schwarz (.320, 16 2B, 15 HR, 66 RBI) were chosen as the Freshman Players of the Year, while LSU's Alex Lange (11-0, 1.76 ERA, 110 K) was crowned the Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
