HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth field hockey sophomore Julia Donald had a career day Friday afternoon in an 8-1 win against visiting Sacred Heart.
The second-year Big Green (2-3) forward scored three first-half goals and assisted on another for seven points in the first 35 minutes of play. As a freshman in 2014, Donald had four goals and 10 points, a number she nearly matched against the Pioneers (2-4) in the first half alone.
Sophomores Sarah Tabeek and Morgan Philie each recorded the first goals of their collegiate careers just 57 seconds apart in the 67th and 68th minutes, respectively, for the final two Dartmouth tallies of the day.
Senior co-captain Rebecca Hu scored the home team's other first-half goal, finishing off a brilliant pass from Donald on a 2-on-1 rush in the 23rd minute.
Fellow senior and co-captain Eliza Becker also netted a marker in the game, her second of the season, while Anna Ewasechko notched her first of the fall on a redirected Brooke Van Valkenburg shot in the 52nd minute. For Van Valkenburg, it was the second helper of the day after also setting up Donald's second marker.
Junior goalkeeper Paige Duffy made five saves in 50:03 of action before giving way to freshman Hailey Valerio, making her Big Green debut. Valerio made one big stop in nearly 20 minutes of play. The duo did not allow a goal until just 13 seconds remained in the game when Nicole Granito erased the shutout bid on a corner play.
Dartmouth dominated from wire-to-wire, scoring four goals in each half and finishing with a 26-10 edge in total shots.
Donald's hat trick was the 47th in program history and the first by a player other than Ali Savage '15 since Sam Anderson '14 scored all three goals in a 3-2 win at Vermont on Oct. 23, 2013.
The eight goals by the Green and White were their most since an 8-1 win at Holy Cross on Sept. 23, 2012.
Dartmouth is back in action on Sunday when it plays host to Bryant at 1 p.m. in its final non-conference game before opening Ivy League play on Sept. 27 at home against Princeton.
