HANOVER, N.H. – Five different Big Green players ended the night with a point apiece as No. 10 Colgate defeated the Dartmouth women's hockey team, 4-2, inside Thompson Arena on Friday evening.
The Green dipped to 4-10-2 and 4-4-2 in ECAC Hockey action, while the visitors improved to 11-3-6 and 3-1-4 in conference play.
Junior Kennedy Ottenbreit opened scoring late in the first, while senior Lindsey Allen was credited with the second Dartmouth goal in the third period.
"I thought we had a good team effort tonight," head coach Mark Hudak said. "We definitely played a grittier game. There were a few unfortunate bounces and we missed some good opportunities, but the game could have gone either way. I think we are struggling a bit right now. We just need to find the confidence that we had earlier in the year."
A combined 14 shots were taken in a quiet first period where neither team was able to get quite close enough to the net to put itself in a scoring position. At 18:49, a minute into the power play, Ottenbreit got the puck following quick passes between senior Olivia Whitford and sophomore Brooke Ahbe and sent it flying from the top of the left circle, sneaking it behind netminder Ashlynne Rando.
The Green enjoyed almost an entire period with a one-goal lead until two markers scored less than a minute apart gave the Raiders a 2-1 advantage. Breanne Wilson-Bennett scored at 18:53 and Lauren Wildfang had an unassisted tally at 19:35. At 4:12 in the third, Wilson-Bennett would net the game-winner.
Dartmouth got one back at 13:30 in the third when senior Laura Stacey intercepted a pass and sent it to Allen, who shot to the right of Rando while simultaneously sliding to the side of the net. An empty netter by Bailey Larson at 19:45 capped the game.
The Green outshot the Raiders, 35-26, and went 1-for-4 on the power play while holding Colgate to 0-for-2. Junior Robyn Chemago, who had a handful of big saves throughout the night, ended up with 22 stops, while Rando had 33.
Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday with a 4 p.m. game against Cornell.
