Penn Quakers (3-2-5, 1-0-1 Ivy)
Date: – Saturday, October 15, 4 p.m.
Location: Hanover, N.H. – Burnham Field
SATURDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth men's soccer team concludes its three-game homestand with Ivy League foe Penn at Burnham Field this Saturday.
SCOUTING THE QUAKERS
Penn comes to Hanover after losing a heartbreaker to Columba at home. The Quakers fell to the Lions, 2-1 in double overtime last weekend for Penn's first conference loss of the season. The Quakers opened Ivy League play with a 2-1 victory over Cornell in Ithaca. Much like the Big Green, Penn also has played to five draws in 2016, which equals the most ties in a season for the Quakers since 1985. On offense, Penn has scored 17 times, seven of which have come from Alex Neumann, who also leads the Quakers with 14 points.
LAST TIME AGAINST PENN
On Oct. 17, 2015 a power outage at Rhodes Field in Philadelphia forced the Dartmouth and Penn game to be played on Oct. 18, where the Big Green prevailed, 1-0. In the 88th minute, Justin Donawa's corner kick was sent to the center of the box for Matt Danilack, who headed the ball to the right corner of the net for the game-winner.
LAST TIME OUT
Behind goals from Danilack and Matt Greer, Dartmouth defeated Yale, 2-0, at Burnham Field last Saturday night. The Big Green controlled the pace of play nearly the entire 90 minutes, outshooting its opponent 10-6. Dartmouth broke the scoreless tie with Danilack's second goal of the season, when he fired a shot from the top of the box that nestled into the upper right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead. In the 51st minute, the Big Green got an insurance goal when Greer netted his second tally of the year on a low shot to the back left corner of the goal from 10 yards away.
WEEKLY HONOR FOR DANILACK
For his three-point performance a week ago, Danilack was named Ivy League Player of the Week on Oct. 10. Danilack has been a key member in the attacking zone this season for Dartmouth, with six points and nine shots through 10 games. For Danilack, this week's award is the third time he's been honored with a weekly award by the Ivy League after he was named Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Week on Oct. 6, 2014.
THE RACE FOR FIRST
The Big Green are currently in a four-way tie with Columbia, Harvard and Brown for first place in the Ivy League. All four teams currently sit at 1-0-1 before this weekend's matches.
WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW
Dartmouth has played to five double-overtime draws this season. The last time the Big Green recorded four ties was in 2013 in Chad Riley's first season as head coach. The most draws in a season for Dartmouth is seven in 2004.
AYE AYE CAPTAIN
Dartmouth is led by captains James Hickok and Emmanuel Arteaga. Also this season, Dartmouth will have three assistant captains, Wyatt Omsberg, Tyler Dowse and Danilack.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Hickok has performed well for Dartmouth in goal so far in 2016. He leads the Ivy League in save percentage (.814) and first in goals against (8).
TAKING CHANCES
Greer and Donawa have been creating scoring chances for the Big Green this season. Greer leads the Ancient Eight with 28 shots, while Donawa is not far behind in third with 27. As a team, Dartmouth is tied for second in the league with 130 total shots through 10 games.
