SATUDAY'S GAME
The Dartmouth men's soccer team gets back to Ivy League play with a match on the road at Columbia on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Columbia heads into Saturday's contest with a four-game winning streak, after recently defeating Princeton, 1-0, in overtime on Oct. 15. The Lions have won the most games out of any Ancient Eight team in 2016, but they are currently in a three-way tie for first place in the Ivy League. As a team, Columbia has scored 18 goals this season, four of which have come from Arthur Bosua, who also leads the team with 11 points through 11 games. In goal, Dylan Castanheira and Zach Alder have split keeper duties. Castanheira is 4-0-0 and has made 12 saves while Alder is 4-2-1 with 34 stops.
LAST TIME AGAINST COLUMBIA
On Oct. 24, 2015, the Big Green kocked off the Lions at home, 2-1, in an aggressive game where the teams drew a combined 31 fouls and six yellow cards. Dartmouth was able to prevail thanks in part to two goals in the first half. The Green struck first when freshman Eduvie Ikoba netted his third goal of the season just before the 27-minute mark. Matt Greer assisted on the goal that gave the Big Green the early lead. With 2:08 left to play in the first half, the Big Green tacked on another goal from Justin Donawa, which was his first of the season. Donawa fired off a shot from 40 yards out to beat Columbia netminder Kyle Jackson for the 2-0 lead.
LAST TIME OUT
On Oct. 18, Dartmouth battled hard in its sixth overtime game of the season, but fell to Boston University, 1-0 in Boston. BU's leading goal scorer, Felix De Bona scored just one minute and 54 seconds into overtime to break the scoreless draw after 90 minutes of regulation soccer at Nickerson Field. De Bona's seventh goal of the season was a curling shot from the top left corner of the box that beat Dartmouth's senior goalkeeper, James Hickok for the golden goal. Despite being outshot by a slim 12-11 margin, the Green held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks which created some opportunities throughout the night.
THE RACE FOR FIRST
Dartmouth is currently in a three-way tie with Columbia and Harvard for first place in the Ivy League. All three teams currently sit at 2-0-1 prior to this weekend's matches.
RISING IN THE RANKINGS
The Big Green are ranked No. 18 in the nation in the NCAA Men's Soccer RPI rankings. Dartmouth is the highest Ancient Eight school on the list that is based on a team's wins, losses and its strength of schedule.
WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW
The Big Green have played to five double-overtime draws this season. The last time Dartmouth recorded four ties was in 2013 in Chad Riley's first season as head coach. The most draws in a season for the Big Green is seven in 2004.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
James Hickok has performed well for Dartmouth in goal so far in 2016. He is second in the Ivy League in save percentage (.804) and third in goals against (10).
TAKING CHANCES
Greer and Justin Donawa have been creating scoring chances for the Big Green this season. Greer is ranked second in the Ancient Eight with 30 shots, while Donawa is not far behind in third with 29.
