POTSDAM, N.Y. – Freshman Christina Rombaut scored her first collegiate goal in Dartmouth women's hockey's 6-1 loss to No. 8/8 Clarkson at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Alyssa Baker and senior Kennedy Ottenbreit both picked up their first helpers of the year. Sophomore Christie Honor played her second full game of the season, ending the day with 28 saves. Junior Brooke Ahbe led with four shots on goal.
"We are still working on finding our identity as a team," assistant coach Chris Cobb said. "We want to be a team that plays with intensity from the drop of the puck to the end of the game. This is just the beginning and I saw a lot of good things that we can build on from this weekend."
With seven minutes to play in the first, a Golden Knight took shot from the blueline and had her shot redirected toward Honor by a teammate. The puck flipped up and might have landed behind Honor, but was cleared quickly by senior Devon Moir and sophomore Caroline Shaunessy. Goals by Clarkson (6-3-1, 2-0-0) at 12:49 and 18:31 gave the home team a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
Senior Emma Korbs gave Dartmouth (0-4-0, 0-3-0) a good chance at a goal in the early stages of the second period, but netminder Shea Tiley was quick on her skates to make the save. The Golden Knights got their third of the afternoon at 5:20 when Brielle Bellerive's shot was initially saved by Honor but fell out of the Big Green goalie's gloves and slipped in the net.
At 13:20, Baker got the puck from Ottenbreit in the right corner and, when a handful of Golden Knights started to swarm, Rombaut took the puck off Baker's stick, outsmarting Tiley by driving toward the center before shooting to the left. Dartmouth had a bit of an offensive resurgence in the second to lessen Clarkson's lead in shots to 19-15.
The Golden Knights got their three-goal lead back at 6:22 in the third. Ella Shelton shot to the left of the cage and, although Honor got a piece of it with her glove, it was not enough to stop the puck from making its way into the net. Clarkson got two more late in the third to make it 6-1, the last of which came with a second remaining on the clock.
Dartmouth will have a week away from the ice and will return on Nov. 11-12 when it hosts Quinnipiac and Princeton.
