NEW YORK, N.Y. – The fifth-ranked Dartmouth men's squash team lost a close, 5-4 match to No. 8 Columbia on the road in New York City on Sunday.
The loss drops the Big Green to 7-3, while the Lions improve to 5-4.
Dartmouth got off to a decent start when junior Andrew Field won the first match for the Big Green in come from behind fashion. Junior Glen Brickman lost in straight games, while freshman Sam Epley retired due to an injury after losing his first game 11-5.
In the second round of matches, junior Nick Harrington played very well to claim a 3-0 victory. Sophomore Brian Giegerich was able to build a 2-1 lead on his opponent before falling in the fifth game. Freshman Carson Spahr played well, but could not record a victory, falling 3-0.
Senior James Fisch showed improved form by sweeping his opponent in three games. Sophomore Alvin Heumann faced the 2015 College Squash Individual Champion Osama Khalifa, who defeated Heumann 3-0. Freshman Matthew Giegerich lost the first two games of his match before mounting a comeback to win the third and fifth games in extra points to secure his match.
Dartmouth returns to the court on Tuesday when the Big Green travel to No. 18 Williams in Williamstown, Mass.
