THIS WEEK
The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team hosts a pair of games this weekend, taking on Yale Saturday and Albany on Monday afternoon.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green dropped a 14-9 decision at No. 15 Boston College Tuesday afternoon. Leading 7-6 at halftime, Dartmouth was unable to hold off the Eagles' resurgence in the second half, falling for the first time ever in the all-time series. Freshman Elizabeth Mastrio and senior co-captain Jaclyn Leto each finished with three goals in the game.
SCOUTING YALE
A possession battle will be on display Saturday as two of the best Ivy teams in terms of draw controls meet. Yale leads all teams in total draws this season with 150, while Dartmouth ranks third with 130. The numbers are a lot closer in conference games as the Bulldogs hold a slight 44-43 edge for the top spot. The game also marks a battle between two of the top goal scorers in the league as Leto's 38 are the most in the Ancient Eight with Tess McEvoy's 32 ranking third amongst conference players. Sophomore Sydney Marks has started all 12 games this season and boasts the fourth-best save percentage among Ivy starting goalkeepers with a .478.
- The last five outings have been tough for the Bulldogs as they come to Hanover on a three-game skid of their own after a pair of wins. However, those two victories were against conference foes, including an overtime win against Columbia that had followed a one-goal victory over Brown. McEvoy has 21 points in that stretch, 15 more than Emily Granger's second-best mark of six.
AGAINST THE BULLDOGS
Saturday marks the 39th all-time meeting between the two teams with Dartmouth holding the 24-14 edge. Yale has come on in the series in recent years, winning the last two games, 12-5 in Hanover in 2014 and again last season in New Haven, 8-7.
SCOUTING ALBANY
The Great Danes play host to UMass Lowell on Saturday so their 7-4 overall record will change by the time the teams meet Monday afternoon. As it stands now, Dakotah Savitcheff is one of the nation's top scorers with 40 goals in 11 games, leading the team not only in tallies, but total scoring (42).
- Albany is 4-1 in its last five games, but that one loss came in the most recent outing (prior to UML), a heartbreaking 8-7 loss at home to No. 4 Syracuse on April 12. Included in that run was a 13-7 win against Yale to start the month. Savitcheff has a pair of seven-goal games during that time against both Vermont and UMBC, both wins for the Great Danes. However, Sarah Martin leads the team in scoring during that time with 25 points on 13 goals and a team-leading 12 assists.
AGAINST THE GREAT DANES
After winning the first-ever meeting against Albany, Dartmouth has dropped the last three contests. The first of those defeats was a 10-7 NCAA Tournament first round game in Hanover. The Great Danes won last season's matchup in Albany, 10-5.
TOURNEY TIME APPROACHING
Saturday's game has serious Ivy League Tournament implications, as Yale and Dartmouth are the first two teams on the outside looking in. Yale is fifth in the standings at 2-2, while Dartmouth's loss at Cornell last Saturday dropped the team to 1-3 in league games and sixth in the standings. The top four make the conference postseason.
MOVING UP THE RECORD BOOKS
With 136 goals to her credit, Leto is within reach of moving into the top-three all-time at Dartmouth. As it stands now, Karen McKeel '81 is third with 151 markers over four years. Leto is currently seventh, but a few games continuing her average of 3.45 goals per game could move her into third. Jacque Weitzel '00 and Lauren Holleran '95 are firmly in first and second all-time with 199 and 193 goals, respectively, in their careers.
- Leto's third goal at BC also gave her 158 career points, moving her into a tie with McKeel for 10th in program history.
THREE FOR THE FIRST TIME
Mastrio's three goals against Boston College were a new career high for the freshman. The rookie had previously scored a pair in Dartmouth's 15-13 win against Boston University on Mar. 1. Her career high in scoring remains a four-point effort in the season opener against UMass Lowell in her Big Green debut.
HOME AND AWAY
Yale is much like their Hanover counterparts in that it has struggled on the road this season. The Elis come to the Upper Valley with a 1-5 record in true road games this season and will go up against a Dartmouth team that is 4-0 at Scully-Fahey Field in 2016.
