HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team saw another weekend of ranked Ivy League action, falling to No. 17 Brown in a nail-biting 13-12 battle on Saturday at Scully-Fahey Field.Â
Lauren Riley recorded her second collegiate hat trick and first career free-position goal, while Fiona O'Keeffe and Katina Christensen each recorded two goals. Margaret Maruszewski found the back of the net for her first goal since her freshman season game against Drexel. Additionally, Catherine Erb, Samantha Bennett, Emma Goodwin, and Ryan Hapgood each tallied a goal.Â
"I think it's going to be a game that we look back on as 'We really wish we could have cleaned up the third and fourth quarter'," Josie Harper Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse
Alex McFadden said. "We came out firing to start, and something we knew about Brown was they don't go away. Part of why they had that ranking is they're always fighting back, and that's what they did."Â
The Bears struck first, getting on the board within the first three minutes of the game. Dartmouth responded by going on a 6-1 run, which included three free-position goals, to take the lead going into the second period. The Big Green added on two points before Brown fired five straight goals, bringing the score within one point entering halftime.Â
Brown opened the second half by evening the score, then taking the lead for the first time since the opening goal. Dartmouth kept the game close, with Goodwin scoring her first career free-position goal to bring the deficit to 11-10.Â
In the final period, the Bears scored back-to-back goals for their largest lead of the afternoon. The Big Green attempted to close the gap with a goal by O'Keeffe and a late-game score by Riley but ultimately fell 13-12.Â
Dartmouth will play its final non-conference opponent of the regular season next Wednesday at 5 p.m. when hosting UMass Lowell.Â
