HANOVER, N.H. -The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team put up a hard fight in its final game of the season on Saturday, ultimately falling to No. 5 Princeton in a close 15-11 battle on senior day.Â
The seniors stood out in more ways than one during their final game at Scully-Fahey Field. Katina Christensen ended her lacrosse career by recording her eighth hat trick of the season, tying Sandy Bryan '83 for ninth all-time in career goals with 126. Boo DeWitt scored two goals, while Maja Desmond scored one.Â
Alex McFadden, the Josie Harper Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse, said the group of seven seniors was her first full recruiting class and noted how incredible each of them is.Â
"They bought into the vision that I wanted for this program, and the last four years have not been easy on them; they persevered and always fought to the end, " McFadden said. "I think all of them have contributed in so many ways on and off the field, and we're just so incredibly thankful for that."Â
Princeton opened the game by scoring two straight goals in the first four minutes, which was followed by Christensen's first goal. The Tigers took a 3-1 lead before DeWitt and Desmond went back-to-back to tie the game at the end of the first period.Â
The Tigers inched away from the Big Green, scoring another goal that was soon matched by Samantha Bennett to tie the score for the second time. Princeton took the lead that it wouldn't give up for the rest of the game with a three-goal streak heading into halftime.Â
In the third period, DeWitt brought the game within two points before Princeton went on a 4-2 run. The Tigers opened the final 15 minutes of play with a goal, which was met with back-to-back scores by Lauren Riley and Christensen.Â
The back-and-forth play continued, with the Tigers extending their lead with a pair of goals. In the final three minutes, Dartmouth attempted a comeback by finding the net twice in under a minute, but a goal by Princeton's Sophie Whiteway sealed a 15-11 Tigers win.Â
Princeton became the outright Ivy League champions following the win, giving them hosting rights for next weekend's 2025 Ivy League Tournament. The Big Green finished with a 9-6 overall record, which marks their best regular season finish since 2019.
