HANOVER, N.H.- The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team earned its first Ivy League victory of the season on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field, handing Cornell a 12-10 loss.Â
On the defensive side, Gisele Todd stood out by making 11 saves, which marks the fifth consecutive game where she has made 10 saves or more.Â
"We got a lot of momentum off of our two games in Texas, and we really wanted to make sure we brought it into Ivy League play," Josie Harper Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse Alex McFadden said. "When you battle it out and you come out with a win at the end, there's a lot to be proud of, but there's also a lot to learn from it."
The Big Green put their foot on the gas in the first quarter against Cornell, going on a 5-1 run to open the game. In the second period, Dartmouth earned its biggest lead of the game, but the Big Red began to fight back, scoring two goals to bring the score to 7-3 at halftime.Â
Cornell gained momentum in the second half, chipping away at the deficit to bring the score within two points. Erb scored back-to-back goals, followed by O'Keeffe's goal, to give the Big Green more breathing room.Â
In the last six minutes of the fourth, the Big Red went on a 3-0 run to bring the game within two points. The game clock had 16 seconds left when Cornell's Alexa Donahue's shot attempt landed in Todd's pocket, sealing Dartmouth's victory.Â
The Big Green will continue Ivy League play next Sunday at noon when they travel to New Haven, Conn., to face No. 10 Yale.Â
