HANOVER, N.H. – Junior Bridget Flynn paced the field, winning the 2016 Dartmouth Invitational Saturday morning at the Hanover Country Club and leading the women's cross country team to a perfect team score of 15 in victory.
Flynn ran a 22:11.41 on the 6K course to take home the individual title, but the impressive team score was the result of a strong showing by the entire group of Big Green runners competing.
Freshman Lauren Sapone (22:20.17) was second with junior Leigh Moffett (22:25.30) and sophomores Lillian Anderson (22:39.38) and Eliza Dekker (22:52.76) rounding out the scoring for the home team.
In all, Dartmouth boasted the first eight finishers and 12 of the top-15 individuals to cross the line.
“This is a good start for us,” head coach Courtney Jaworski said. “We got good performances from some of our younger runners, which was what we expected as we didn't run some of our top returners.
“Really happy to see that result for Bridget, who has been working so hard to prepare for this season,” Jaworski added. “I'm really happy for a lot of these young women because they went out and ran well when we were looking for big days out of them.”
Following Dartmouth's perfect score in the standings was Middlebury (53) in second and Keene State (78) in third.
The Big Green return to action on Friday morning in Boston as they run in the BC Coast-to-Coast Meet.
