BOSTON - The Dartmouth women's cross country team posted a second-place finish Friday afternoon at the Boston College's Coast-To-Coast Invitational.
The Big Green recorded 79 team points on the 6K Franklin Park course en route to second behind only national power Providence (25).
"Overall, it was a solid performance for our younger team,” head coach Courtney Jaworski said after the race. “The 24-second spread between our first and fifth runner was encouraging. We definitely have more work ahead, but this was a good first test for our squad."
Providence – ranked third in the nation in the most recent U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll — came away with the win, but Dartmouth's second-place showing was also dominant in taking second by 24 points ahead of third-place Brown (103).
Making their collegiate debuts, freshmen Diana Vizza (17:46) and Georgia Fear (17:53) were the team's top runners on Friday, claiming 10th and 11th, respectively.
Sophomore Olivia Lantz was the third Dartmouth harrier to cross the line, doing so in 17:58. Junior Bridget Flynn — fresh off her Dartmouth Invitational win last Saturday — was 19th overall (18:06), with freshman Lauren Sapone (18:10) claiming 22nd to round out the scoring for the team in green and white.
The Big Green are back in action again on Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Paul Short Invite hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
