HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth junior
Patrick Peterson is among the 60 pitchers named to the
watch list for the 13th annual National College Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball. While 23 different conference had at least one pitcher selected for the list, Peterson was the lone Ivy League representative.
Peterson has been stellar out of the bullpen for the Big Green in his first two seasons in Hanover, earning a spot on the All-Ivy League First Team both years. For his career, he has posted a perfect 7-0 record with 10 saves and a 2.59 ERA over 59.0 innings. The right-hander has held opposing hitters to a .209 average, yielding 43 hits and 17 runs, all earned, with 52 strikeouts and 21 walks.
A Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American as selected by Collegiate Baseball in 2015, the native of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, was even better last year, going 3-0 with four saves and a 1.65 ERA in 13 appearances, striking out 28 batters in 32.2 innings. Opponents hit a miniscule .165 against Peterson, and he earned a win or a save in each of his final six outings without surrendering a run over 13.2 stanzas.
Dartmouth opens the 2017 season on Feb. 25 at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida, with games against Eastern Michigan and St. Bonaventure that day. Last year, the Big Green went 18-25 overall and 11-9 in the Ivy League, tying Yale atop the Rolfe Division standings before losing the one-game playoff to the Bulldogs, 5-4, ending an eight-year reign as the division champion.
