HANOVER, N.H. – The ninth-ranked Dartmouth men's squash team defeated No. 13 Cornell, 8-1 at the Berry Squash Courts on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Big Green improve to 5-5, while the Big Red drop to 6-7.
Co-captain Nick Harrington got the day started by showing good form to win his match in a thrilling four games. Junior Jack Harvey won his match in straight sets showing resilience in the third game. Down 9-7, he battled back to win the next four points and match. Sophomore Carson Spahr faced a notoriously tough opponent and fell in a tough three games.
The second round of matches sealed the win for Dartmouth as all three members of the Big Green won their matches. Senior Glen Brickman and sophomore Matthew Giegerich quickly tallied 3-0 victories. Meanwhile, freshman Brandon De Otaduy drew a large crowd as he rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to win in five games.
In the final round, junior Brian Giegerich and sophomore Sam Epley were able to quickly shut down their opponents in straight game victories. Epley in particular played electric squash with a dominant win. For the final match of the day, the stands were packed to watch junior Alvin Heumann. The Southport, Connecticut native dropped the first stanza, but after making some adjustments to his game plan, he was able to come back and win the next three consecutive games for the win.
Dartmouth returns to the court tomorrow when the Big Green host Columbia at 11 a.m.
