NEW YORK - One of the greatest players in Ivy League women's basketball history is receiving yet another prestigious honor.
Gail Koziara Boudreaux, an all-time Ivy League and Dartmouth women's basketball standout, has received the 2018 Billie Jean King Leadership Award from the
Women's Sports Foundation (WSF) and will accept the honor at the 39th Annual Salute to Women in Sports on Oct. 17 in New York City.
Boudreaux will be joined at the event by a number of luminaries with Ivy League ties, including the League's Executive Director Robin Harris, a
member of the WSF Board of Directors; Brown volleyball alum Lauren Gibbs, who won silver at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the bobsled; as well as former Princeton rugby assistant coach Phaidra Knight
and Yale alum and Olympic gold medalist figure skater Sarah Hughes.
The Billie Jean King Leadership Award is presented to an individual or group who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the advancement of women through achievements in sports and the workplace. Through their personal and professional example, the recipients have inspired women and girls and demonstrated a lasting commitment to the growth of sports and physical activity for all women and girls.
Boudreaux is the fifth Ivy to earn the honor, and the first former student-athlete. Previous recipients include Dartmouth's John Steffens (2010), Cornell's Dorothy Gulbenkian Blaney (2006), Yale's Joseph Cullman (2002) and Penn law graduate Anita DeFrantz (1996).
A two-sport athlete at Dartmouth, Boudreaux has embraced and conquered every challenge throughout her athletic and professional careers. She was named to the Ivy League's Silver Anniversary basketball team in 1999 and was one of six individuals to receive the NCAA's Silver Anniversary award in 2006 for outstanding professional and athletic achievement. In 2017, she was a part of the inaugural class of the
Legends of Ivy League Basketball.
Boudreaux was named one of Fortune's 50 Most Powerful Women in American Business from 2008 to 2014 and included among Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women in the World, reaching fifth on the list in 2018. She has been recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the Most Powerful People in the industry.
A four-time first-team All-Ivy selection and three-time Ivy League Player of the Year from 1978-1982, Boudreaux is Dartmouth's all-time leading scorer (1,933 points) and rebounder (1,635 boards). She was a two-time Academic All-American and a third-team All-American as a senior as well as a five-time Ivy Heps champion for the Big Green track & field team.
Boudreaux graduated from Dartmouth in 1982 and went on to earn her M.B.A. from Columbia University. After serving as CEO of UnitedHealthcare, she founded GKB Global Health, L.L.C. in 2015, a healthcare strategy and business advisory firm. In 2017, she was named President and CEO of Anthem Inc., one of the nation's leading health benefits companies.
