HANOVER, N.H. – It came down to three corner plays in the final minute for the Dartmouth field hockey team, but the Big Green were unable to find the tying goal in a 4-3 loss to visiting Yale Saturday at Chase Field.
Â
The opportunities to tie the game came in the final minute after
Katie Spanos scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 63rd minute to pull the home team to within one.
Â
However, one attempt went wide, another hit the post and one was blocked and sent away as the Bulldogs (6-6, 2-2 Ivy) held off the Green (4-7, 1-3 Ivy) for the win.
Â
"Obviously this was a very tough result for us," head coach
Amy Fowler said. "Unfortunately, a flat start gave Yale an early head start, and it's always tough to overcome a deficit. I'm proud of the team for battling, and turning things around, we just have to be that much more stingy on defense and we absolutely need to finish as a team.Â
"We're eager to get back out there tomorrow against Northeastern," Fowler continued. "Every game from here on out is a big game!
Dartmouth dug an early hole as Yale's Theodora Dillman and Bridget Condie scored on corner plays in the third and fourth minutes, respectively, to put the visitors up a pair.

Senior
Gemma Bautista's second of the year came in the 13th minute and cut the deficit in half before freshman
Gracyn Campbell's fourth of 2018 found the back of the cage in the 26th.
Â
The fifth tally of the half was the last with Camille Scheyer notching her first of the fall in the 29th minute to send the teams to intermission once again separated by a goal.
Â
The lead pushed back up to two in the 62nd minute thanks to Imogen Davies' sixth of the year, only to be answered by Spanos 67 seconds later.
Â
The Green and White were not without their chances throughout the day as they held 25-9 and 13-5 advantages in shots and corners in the game. Senior
Hailey Valerio made two saves and was aided by a missed Yale penalty stroke that hit the post, while Sydney Terroso turned aside 11 Dartmouth shots in the win.
Â
The Big Green remain home Sunday for a non-conference game against Northeastern at 1 p.m.
