LOWELL, Mass. – Katie Spanos' team-leading seventh goal of the season came in the 66th minute of Sunday's non-conference game at UMass Lowell and helped the Dartmouth field hockey team to a 2-1 come-from behind victory.
Â
The Big Green (6-8) fell behind 1-0 early in the second half, but tallies from
Katie Persin and Spanos led them to a comeback and their second win of the weekend.
Â
It was a scoreless game through the first half and wasn't until the 43rd minute that someone finally broke through on the scoreboard. That first goal came from the River Hawks' (8-8) Katie Lynn off a corner play to put the home team up a tally.
Â
However, the lead didn't last too long as Persin's fourth of the season came just about six and a half minutes later to knot the game up at 1-1. Freshman
Cecelia Monnin picked up the lone assist on the goal, as she was involved in the corner play that eventually led to the equalizer.
Â
Jocelyn Wulf was credited with the assist on Spanos' goal with her initial shot being redirected from the post and into the cage for the go-ahead marker that proved to be the winner.
Â
Senior
Hailey Valerio picked up the win in goal, stopping four shots and was tested late on several occasions. Windy conditions at Wicked Blue Field led to a series of wild plays in the final minutes with the River Hawks seeking the tying score that never came. Lowell's goalkeeper Eva Berkhout turned aside eight in a losing effort.
Â
Two days after head coach
Amy Fowler picked up her 150th career win, she added another to her total with Sunday's wild affair.
Â
Dartmouth is home next weekend for a Saturday contest (1 p.m.) against Ivy League leading No.9 Harvard. Senior Day ceremonies will follow the conclusion of the final home game of the season that will be carried live on ESPN+.
