HANOVER, N.H. – When you finish second, there's only one way you want to go and that is up.
Â
For the Dartmouth women's cross country team, Saturday's 2018 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship Meet will provide that opportunity after finishing as the runner up last fall.
Â
The Big Green posted 73 points on the Van Cortland Park 6K course exactly a year ago Saturday, seven points back of the champions from Columbia (66). After finishing first in both 2013 and 2014, Dartmouth dropped back to eighth and seventh in the two years that followed.
Â
However, last year's second-place showing was a return to Ivy league prominence that has carried over to this season in which the team has been nationally ranked for much of the fall and was even ranked as the top team in the Northeast Region for the first time in program history.
Â
Olivia Lantz was fifth last year in 21:17, but the 2018 team has not had one dominant runner throughout. Instead, Dartmouth has relied on a deep, talented group of top harriers who have all demonstrated an ability to lead the way, something that could pay dividends Saturday at Princeton.
