HOUSTON, Texas – The Dartmouth softball team took a midweek road win at Houston Baptist on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Huskies 7-2.

With the win, the Big Green improve to 6-11 on the season, with Ivy League action ahead this weekend, while HBU falls to 3-16.

Dartmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning to get the afternoon started. Senior Claire Bird hit a double to right center, batting in McKenna Gray to score the first run of the game, and Micah Schroder singled up the middle with Bird on third and Tiffany Dyson on second who both scored, taking the 3-0 advantage.

Schroder returned again to bat in the top of the fourth, with Gray on third base and two outs, she hit a single to right center, batting Gray in for a 4-0 lead.

Freshman Shelby Wilkison started on the mound for the Big Green and through five innings she only had allowed two hits, helping hold the advantage until the sixth inning. At the top of the sixth, Schroder returned again to continue her successful outing, hitting a single with runners on second and third who both scored, tallying the sophomore's fifth RBI of the evening.

The Huskies finally put runs on the board in the bottom of the inning, when Demi Janak hit a home run with a runner on second, cutting the lead to 6-2 with no outs.

Dartmouth junior Morgan Martinelli responded with a home run of her own to lead off the seventh inning, and to secure the 7-2 win.

Wilkison finished her six innings pitched with 24 batters faced, six strikeouts, three hits, two runs, two errors and one walk. Fellow freshman Heather Turner pitched the final inning, walking one and allowing no hits.

Wednesday's game is the final road non-conference game for the Big Green, who start conference play this weekend at Penn on Saturday, and have one home non-conference game remaining in April.
