HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team fell, 3-2, Friday afternoon at home against Sacred Heart.
Â
Junior
Katie Spanos scored the second Big Green (2-3) goal of the afternoon, giving her goals in four straight games.
Â
Picking up an assist on Spanos' fourth of the season was classmate
Carmen Braceras who had netted the home team's first goal of the afternoon in 18th minute.
Â
Sacred Heart (5-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a goal from Colleen McAninley. The Pioneers' attacker intercepted a pass and came in on goal where her long shot found room for the day's first tally. The 1-0 lead was short-lived, though, as Braceras sent a rocket of a shot off the left post and into the net.
Katie Persin collected the helper on the nice pass into the zone to set up the score.
Â
Out of the break, Marlena Koellner gave the visitors a 2-1 lead less than two and a half minutes in, only to see the Green and White answer back with the Spanos marker just six minutes later to pull even once again.
Â
However, McAninley's second goal and fifth point of the day came in the 55th minute and proved to be the game winner as Sacred Heart picked up its first victory in four all-time meetings with Dartmouth.
Â
Senior
Hailey Valerio made five saves in the Big Green cage, while Hailey Power stopped seven in goal for the Pioneers.
Â
Dartmouth held a 16-9 edge in shots, thanks in large part to a 9-1 edge in the game's first 35 minutes.
