THIS WEEKEND
Having been on the road for the first two games of the season, No. 1 Dartmouth women's rugby will play its home opener on Saturday, welcoming No. 9 Brown to Brophy Field for an 11 a.m. match.
NIRA RANKINGS
After a 2-0 start to their season, the Big Green were ranked No. 1 in the most recent NIRA rankings.
Harvard, which also has a 2-0 mark, is sitting in second. The Crimson also defeated the Bobcats, which have slipped to third on the list. The top five is rounded out by Army West Point (4) and AIC (5).
The order has slightly changed since the preseason rankings were released at the end of last month; Quinnipiac was first, Dartmouth was second and Harvard was No. 3.
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kat Ramage was named the Dartmouthsports.com female athlete of the week after her performances in the wins over Notre Dame College and Quinnipiac. She scored one try and had two good conversions against NDC and had five good kicks against the Bobcats for an additional 10 for a total of 19 points so far this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth took down three-time defending national champion Quinnipiac, 40-22, at the Quinnipiac Rugby Field on Saturday.
Ramage, Sophie Ragg and Emily Henrich all ended the day with 10 points; Ramage had five good conversions, while Ragg and Henrich scored a pair of tries.
Tries by Ragg, Camille Johnson and Henrich, and a trio of good conversions by Ramage within the first 17 minutes put Dartmouth ahead, 21-0. Quinnipiac got in the game with a try of its own and a good conversion and, following a penalty kick, made it a 21-10 match. Henrich's second try of the game and a good kick by Ramage increased the Big Green's lead (28-10) to end the first half.
Two Bobcat tries and one conversion to start the second pulled the home team within six points (28-22). Dartmouth shut down Quinnipiac's opportunity for a comeback with two more tries of its own, scored by Ragg and a career-first for Margot Généreux, and a good Ramage conversion to give the Green a 40-22 lead.
SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears have just one game under their belts, a 26-19 win over Sacred Heart last weekend. They still have a handful of tough opponents to face after the Big Green, including Quinnipiac, Harvard and Norwich.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BEARS
On Oct. 14, 2017, a forfeit by Brown automatically awarded the win to Dartmouth.
NEXT UP FOR DARTMOUTH
The Big Green will host Harvard on Saturday, Sept. 22. That will also be the Dartmouth women's rugby 40th reunion weekend.
