ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior captain
Christina Rombaut scored midway through overtime to give Dartmouth a 2-1 victory over RIT at Gene Polisseni Center on Saturday afternoon.
The game winner was Rombaut's first point of the season, while the Big Green's first tally, scored by
Jess Forcey, was a career-first for the sophomore.
Fellow sophomore
Lotti Odnoga assisted on both tallies to lead the team, and freshman
CC Bowlby had a helper of her own.
In net, Dartmouth (2-5-1) rookie
Hannah Humphreys had 17 saves, winning her second game of the season. On the other end of the ice, RIT (3-7-1) goalie Jessi O'Leary had 30 stops.
This is the first time the Green have defeated the Tigers since a 6-0 victory on Feb. 11, 1995.
"I'm so happy for our players," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "They played a solid 200-foot game this afternoon. They really bought into taking care of the defensive sie of the puck. We put 40 shots on net and only allowed 18 against us. That's commitment to playing a complete game and that's what we need to continue to do moving forward."
Despite Dartmouth's shot advantage and multiple point-blank shots, it was RIT that got on the board first, getting past Humphreys and some Big Green defenders at 14:13 of the first.
The Tigers were plagued with penalties in the second period, heading to the box five times in a 10-minute span. With almost four minutes of 5-on-3 play, Forcey picked up her first collegiate point to tie the score at 12:52.
Forcey was back late in the third to try her hand at finding the back of the net for a second time, but O'Leary was too quick, throwing herself on the puck to make the save. With little else in the way of offense for either team, the game went to overtime.
A minute and a half into the extra period, it appeared that RIT had scored the game winner, but it was waved off since the whistle had been blown a split second beforehand. A minute later, Rombaut got past O'Leary with her first goal of her senior campaign to give Dartmouth the win.
The Green had a 40-18 shot advantage and went 1-for-4 on the power play while holding the Tigers to 0-for-1.
Dartmouth will have almost two weeks away from the ice, returning to action after Thanksgiving to host a two-game series against Maine on Nov. 29-30.
