HAMDEN, Conn. – Dartmouth women's hockey picked up a point in the 1-1 tie against Quinnipiac at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena on Friday evening.
Senior
Bailee Brekke scored her first goal of the season, while freshman
Celine Pietraszek also ended up on the scoresheet by assisting.
Rookie netminder
Hannah Humphreys was excellent, making a season-high 33 saves.
"What a game we played tonight," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "I was so proud of all of our efforts. Hannah had another great game for us and I thought our D-zone and penalty kill was right on par."
Seven minutes into the opening stanza, Quinnipiac (4-4-2, 0-3-1) almost scored when the rebound got away from Humphreys, but good defense by sophomore
Givanna Foglia and senior
Christina Rombaut kept the Bobcats out of the net.
With two Dartmouth (1-3-1, 1-2-1) players in the box, Humphreys had a great split save but reacted a fraction of a second too late to stop the shot directly after, giving way to the first goal of the evening at 10:50 of the first.
The home team held on to its one-goal lead until 5:37 of the second when Brekke's shot from the point got through traffic and tied the score.
The Big Green and the Bobcats played an even game for the next 35 minutes and, with the score still 1-1, Dartmouth headed to overtime for the second game in a row. The Green had a 3-2 shot advantage in the extra period, but neither team could get past the goalies and the game ended in a tie.
Quinnipiac led in shots, 34-17. The Big Green went 0-for-4 with the extra player, while the Bobcats scored once in five opportunities.
Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday when it faces No. 7 Princeton at 3 p.m.
