BU hit 16 3-pointers to tie its single-game record
BOSTON, Mass. – Boston University (4-6) tied its single-game 3-point field goal record with 16 as the Terriers handed Dartmouth (6-5) a 74-56 loss Saturday afternoon at Case Gym.
Katie Nelson also tied BU's individual record for threes in a game with seven in the process.
The Big Green had three players score in double figures. Paula Lenart and Annie McKenna each finished with 13 points and four rebounds, while Lenart added two blocks and two steals to her day. Anna Luce tallied 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
BU used the long ball to jump ahead to an early 8-0 lead, sinking two triples in the first two minutes. Katie Douglas drove and scored to put the Big Green on the board with 7:59 on the clock and Lenart muscled a three-point play to trim the gap to 13-7 at 5:18. The Terriers outscored Dartmouth 9-4 to end the quarter, drilling two more 3-pointers, to take a 22-11 advantage after one.
Dartmouth made four threes of its own to keep them within striking distance in the second. McKenna sunk her first of the contest at the 8:24 mark to bring the deficit to 27-14. The teams then traded baskets as BU took its largest lead of the night, 31-16. McKenna and Luce sunk consecutive long balls and Allie Harland made it a 39-29 game with a 3-pointer in the final minute before the break.
Three more 3-pointers fell for BU in the early going of the third as the Terriers built its lead to 48-34 at the 6:20 mark. Dartmouth then went on a 9-5 spurt, but BU hit another triple to close the quarter ahead, 56-43.
BU sank five more from 3-point land in the fourth. Katie Nelson tied the single-game team, and individual, record with her seventh three with 42 seconds remaining to finish things off.
Dartmouth is off for the holidays and will pick its season back up at Buffalo on Sunday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.
