THIS WEEKEND
After playing six straight non-conference games to start the season, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will open Ivy League play this Saturday when it hosts Harvard.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth men's lacrosse suffered a 15-8 loss to St. John's in a mid-week road contest at DaSilva Field.
Â
The Big Green were led by
Ben Martin with two goals and two assists, while
Matt Paul and
Harlan Smart had a pair of points apiece.
Foster Burnley led the team with a season-high seven ground balls.
Â
All three of Dartmouth's goalies saw time in net.
Daniel Hincks played the first 38 minutes and made three saves during that time before making way for
George Christopher, who made one stop.
Alex Burnley also made his way into the game, playing the final minute.
Â
Despite a 12-6 shot advantage in the opening quarter, the Big Green found themselves trailing, 3-1, midway through due to some strong goaltending by Brody Agres. Fast forward to the final 1:42 and goals by Smart and
George Prince less than a minute apart had tied things up, but a Red Storm (3-4) tally with 13 seconds to go put the home team up after the first 15 minutes (4-3).
Â
St. John's took off in the second quarter, scoring three more markers in the first eight minutes to jump further ahead.
Trevor Ballantyne ended the Red Storm's run at 3:12 with his third goal of the season to get the Big Green within three (7-4) to end the first half.
Â
Dartmouth made it a one-goal game following tallies by Martin and Paul (7-6) at the start of the third, but an 8-2 St. John's rally over the next quarter and a half gave the win to the Red Storm. Smart and Martin added one more goal apiece in the fourth.
Â
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
After his five-point performance in the win over Binghamton on Saturday, Paul was named the Dartmouthsports.com male athlete of the week. This is the first time this season that a Big Green men's lacrosse player has been recognized.
Â
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Like every other Ivy school except for Dartmouth, Harvard has already played its first conference game, falling to Brown by a score of 16-14 last week. The Crimson redeemed themselves when they took down Boston University, 12-11, in triple overtime.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
March 24, 2018 – Dartmouth played very well against a tough Harvard team, playing through seven ties before ultimately falling by a score of 10-8 at Harvard Stadium.
Â
Martin and Prince both scored a hat trick, while
Jack Korzelius ended the game with two points from a goal and an assist, and
Richie Loftus and
David Gallagher had a point apiece. In net,
George Christopher had a season-high 15 stops and
