THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will face its first ranked opponent this weekend when it travels to Ithaca to face No. 10 Cornell.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Daniel Hincks had a career-high 17 saves in Dartmouth's heartbreaking 12-9 loss to Harvard in the Big Green's Ivy League opener last weekend.
Matt Paul,
Ben Martin and
George Prince all ended the game with four points apiece, while Hincks led the team with nine ground balls.
Â
Both goalies were on point to start the game, stopping any and all attempts in the first five minutes. Dartmouth broke through first at 9:08 with Martin's 11th tally of the season. The Big Green held on to their lead for five minutes until the Crimson scored a trio of goals to take control, 3-1.
Â
Harvard kept its momentum going in the second and netted one more goal before Dartmouth got its stride back. Four Green tallies in a row (a hat trick by Paul and a collegiate first for
Cormac Zachar) put the home team up by one after the first 30 minutes of action (5-4).
Â
Having been kept scoreless for almost 20 minutes, the Crimson found the back of the net at 8:54 of the third. The game was tied for just 90 seconds, at which point Martin and Paul added two more to give Dartmouth a 7-5 advantage. Harvard scored two consecutive goals, the last coming with just 1.8 seconds remaining, to tie the score heading into the fourth (7-7).
Â
The Crimson scored four more markers to make it six unanswered goals in a row, putting Harvard ahead for the first time since the second quarter. With 4:00 remaining, Martin cut the visitors' run short by completing his hat trick and, less than two minutes later,
David Gallagher scored his first goal of the season to get Dartmouth within two (11-9). Harvard scored once more with 32 seconds to go to end the game.
Â
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell enters its third straight home game with an overall record of 5-3 and an 0-2 mark in conference play. The Big Red are most recently coming off a 16-15 loss to No. 19 Penn, a game that was won with just 17 seconds remaining in the fourth.
Â
Cornell has done well in non-conference tilts, defeating Hobart, Albany, Lehigh, Towson and St. Bonaventure while falling to Penn State. The Big Red held their own against defending national champion Yale, falling by five (16-11).
Â
Six players have made it to double digit points and are led by Jeff Teat with 40 points. He is also first with 23 assists, while John Piatelli leads with 29 goals.
Â
