THIS WEEKEND
Having played the Seahawks over the weekend, the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team will next play the River Hawks, hosting UMass Lowell in the Big Green's home opener on Tuesday.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth picked up its first win of 2019 on Saturday, defeating Wagner easily by a score of 11-4 at Hameline Field.
Â
The Big Green were led by
Ben Martin with four points from three goals and an assist, while
George Prince was right behind with three tallies. Five other players found their way onto the scoresheet.
Â
Dartmouth started the game well, taking the lead right from the beginning while not allowing the Seahawks to score a single goal. Prince opened scoring less than two minutes in and he and Prince traded goals until the Green had a 4-0 advantage after the first 15 minutes.
Â
Prince would add one more just over a minute into the second quarter before Wagner got on the board. Dartmouth responded by scoring two more goals, courtesy of
Harlan Smart and
Peter Rizzotti, to give the visitors a 7-1 edge after two.
Â
Trevor Ballantyne further increased the Big Green's lead three and a half minutes into the third and it took over 11 minutes for Wagner to be able to get one back, finding the back of the net with nine seconds remaining. With just one tick left on the clock,
Matt Paul put Dartmouth back up by seven (9-2).
Â
At 14:22 of the fourth, Paul was back with his second of the game, but the Seahawks turned things around quickly to score one of their own just seven seconds later (10-3). The teams would go on to score one more tally each before time expired.
Â
SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS
Like Dartmouth, UMass Lowell enters Tuesday's game with an overall record of 1-2. The River Hawks opened the season at the beginning of February with a win over Quinnipiac (12-10) but have since dropped games to Holy Cross (12-7) and Siena (16-15, OT).
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST UMASS LOWELL
On April 10, 2018, Dartmouth played a strong second half – netting three straight to tie the score late in the fourth quarter and send it to overtime – but ultimately fell to UMass Lowell by a score of 9-8 in double overtime on the road.
Â
Jack Korzelius and Paul both ended the night with three points, while three other players all had two points each.
Alex Burnley had career-high 14 saves for a .609 save percentage.
Â
LEADING THE WAY
Martin has pulled away to lead the team in all three categories: goals (6), assists (5) and points (11). Paul is first in ground balls (11) and scored the team's only man-up tally. Faceoff duties have been shared by just two players, being led by
Kiernan Gunn (16-37, .432).
Â
BETWEEN THE PIPES
On Saturday,
Daniel Hincks played the first 57 minutes, making 11 saves en route to picking up his first collegiate win.
George Christopher made his way in to the game for the final two minutes, making two saves during his first game of the season. So far this season, Hincks has played 177 minutes, making 37 saves.
