THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth men's lacrosse will be on the road for the second weekend in a row, traveling to New Haven to take on defending national champion and fifth-ranked Yale.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth had a strong first quarter before No. 10 Cornell ran away with the lead, defeating the Big Green by a score of 15-5 at Schoellkopf Field on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The team was led by
Ben Martin with his hat trick, while
Matt Paul had two points from a goal and an assist and three other players had one point apiece.
Daniel Hincks matched his career-high from last weekend, stopping 17 shots.
Â
Hincks started the game off very well, making three consecutive saves on three tough shots by Cornell in the first minute of play. The Big Red (6-3, 1-2 Ivy League) got on the board first at 12:30 and it looked as if Paul had tied the game up seven minutes later, but the goal was waved off. Paul did not forget that, coming back to score at 1:58, a tally that counted this time. With under a minute remaining, Martin gave Dartmouth (2-6, 0-2 Ivy League) the lead, only to have Cornell tie things up with 17 seconds to go (2-2).
Â
The Big Green stayed right with their ranked opponents until the Big Red scored at 11:26 and again at 5:10 to pull ahead by two. Dartmouth had a few chances in the second quarter but could not get one back and headed to the intermission trailing, 4-2.
Â
Cornell scored its fourth and fifth markers in a row midway through the third.
George Prince cut into that lead and scored the Green's first tally since the first quarter, but the Big Red responded with a trio of goals in three minutes to pull further ahead (9-3). Some big saves by Hincks kept Cornell at bay for the remainder of the quarter.
Â
After another Big Red tally 25 seconds into the fourth, Dartmouth found a little momentum with back-to-back Martin goals, getting the Big Green within five while the junior completed his hat trick (10-5). Cornell cut Dartmouth's could-be run short, putting three more on the board in a two-minute span. The Big Red scored two more goals in seven seconds to end the game (15-5).
Â
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale enters this weekend's game with an overall record of 6-2 and 2-1 in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs are coming off a 13-12 triple overtime loss to Penn last Saturday, their first loss since their first game of the season, an 11-10 OT loss to Villanova on Feb. 16.
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST YALE
April 7, 2018 – A strong first and fourth quarter led No. 3 Yale to a 17-7 win over Dartmouth at Scully-Fahey Field.
Â
Jack Korzelius and
George Prince both ended the day with four points. Korzelius led with his four goals, while Prince had two goals and a pair of assists. In net,
Alex Burnley made eight saves while being saddled with the loss. He also led the team with seven ground balls.
