PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After a tough loss to Princeton on Saturday, the No. 39 Dartmouth men's tennis team rebounded the following day, defeating No. 50 Penn, 5-2, at the Hamlin Tennis Center.
Â
The Big Green improved to 12-6 and 1-1 in conference play, while the Quakers dipped to 16-8 and 0-3.
Â
"It was a good battle in a tough environment on the road," head coach
Chris Drake said. "We won four tough three setters and had to overcome some adversity to get the win. We bounced back well from yesterday and I'm proud of the fight of our team."
Â
Dartmouth started the day off well by winning the doubles point. Sophomores
Dan Martin and
John Speicher had a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position while seventh-ranked
Charlie Broom and
David Horneffer had a 6-3 victory of their own at the top spot.
Â
Penn soon tied things up with a win at No. 1 singles, but four Big Green victories in a row by Martin, Horneffer, Speicher and sophomore
Peter Conklin allowed Dartmouth to clinch quickly. All four of those matches had to go to three sets before the visitors walked away victoriously. The Quakers added one last win at the No. 5 position before the match ended.
Â
On Friday, April 12, Dartmouth will face Brown on the road before returning to Hanover to host Yale two days later.
