HANOVER, N.H. – Thanks to a first-place showing from senior
Quinn Cooney, the Dartmouth men's cross country team handily won the season-opening Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational at the Hanover Country Club Saturday morning.
Â
An impressive team showing from top to bottom, the Big Green posted 18 points in the victory.
Â
For Cooney, this was the second time he had won the event, also doing so as a freshman in the 2016 season when the meet was still known as the Dartmouth Invitational.
Â
Now, as a senior, he paced the field with a 24:40 on the 8K course.
Henry Raymond was second in 24:53, while Ben Matejka was third in 24:56.
Â
Rounding out the scoring for the home team were Will Eaton (25:01) and
Liam Jamieson (25:19) in fifth and seventh, respectively.
Â
Brown was second in the team scores with 46 thanks to runners crossing in fourth and sixth. Maine was third with one top-10 finisher and claimed 76 points, while Hartford was fourth in the standings thanks to 119 team points.
Â
For the Big Green, this marked the sixth straight team title, having captured the crown in every season-opening home meet since 2014.
Â
Dartmouth is not in action again until Friday, Sept. 20 when it runs at Boston College's Coast-to-Coast Invitational.
