HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's cross country team edged Brown, 28-33, Saturday morning in the season-opening Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational at the Hanover Country Club.
Â
Brown posted three of the first four finishers on the 6K course, including the winner Hannah Butler (21:58), but the Big Green had every runner between the fifth and 12th spots, respectively, to earn the team title for the sixth straight year.
Â
Leading the way for the home team was senior
Diana Vizza in second place thanks to a 22:15 finish.
Â
Claire Dougherty (22:46),
Samantha Ford (22:51),
Lauren Archer (22:52) and
Corinne Robitaille (22:55) rounded out the scoring for the home team, giving the Green and White three seniors (Vizza, Dougherty and Archer) and a pair of freshman (Ford and Robitaille) points in the first meet of the 2019 season.
Â
That depth pushed Brown's next two scoring runners to 11th and 14th, respectively, in addition to the three-top-four finishers.
Â
Hartford was fourth with 92 points, just beating out fourth-place Maine with 95 points.
Â
Dartmouth is not in action again until Friday, Sept. 20 when it runs at Boston College's Coast-to-Coast Invitational.
