HANOVER, N.H. — "Big Green Classic," live streams of Dartmouth fall sporting events from the recent past with commentary from some of the players and coaches, is back again this week to bring you a 2016 showdown between the Dartmouth men's soccer team and Seattle when the Redhawks were ranked 24th in the nation. The event will be streamed Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. on the
Dartmouth Sports YouTube channel.
It was early in the season when the Big Green played host to Seattle, and Dartmouth was still looking for its first win against a challenging slate. The Green had tied 17th-ranked Kentucky and Xavier, both on the road, before dropping a 1-0 contest to Washington, which was receiving votes in the national polls. By the end of the season, Dartmouth claimed the Ivy League crown and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time, including the 10th time in the past 13 seasons.
Host Brett Franklin will be joined by three alumni who played in the contest —
Yima Asom '18,
Justin Donawa '19 and
Noah Paravicini '19 — as well as
Bo Oshoniyi, the Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer. Asom, who came to Dartmouth from Fairview, Texas, played in 75 games over five years, starting 43 times. The midfielder scored a pair of goals and handed out three assists, and the Big Green advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of his first four campaigns.
A native of Sandys, Bermuda, Donawa was a two-sport standout at Dartmouth, earning All-Ivy League honors in both soccer and track and field. He scored 10 goals during his career — seven of which were game-winners — and dished out 16 assists, fifth all-time in program history. In track and field, Donawa was the Ivy League champion in the triple jump in his senior year. He is currently on the roster of the Solihull Moors FC of the National League in England.
Paravicini, out of Petaluma, California, twice was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team and played in 67 games during his Big Green career, starting 48. He scored eight goals over his four years, including four in that 2016 campaign to tie for the team lead, and provided eight assists as well. Like Donawa, Paravicini is playing professionally, but domestically with the Hartford Athletic in the United Soccer League.
Be sure to tune in to the Dartmouth Sports YouTube channel on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. to watch the game play out and hear insight on the strategies and behind-the-scenes discussions.
