This is the first time Puerto Rico has qualified for the Olympic Games
BOURGES, France – Isalys Quinones '19 and the Puerto Rican national team have qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This is the first time that Puerto Rico has qualified for the Olympic games.
The team advanced out of Group A along with France and Australia to make the 12-team tournament beginning on July 26.
Puerto Rico started its qualifier by defeating Brazil 91-89 in overtime. Quinones finished with nine points, five rebounds and an assist. That win turned out to be the deciding factor, as Australia beat Brazil on the final day, to guarantee a spot for Puerto Rico.
Quinones started each of the three games in the Olympic qualifier and averaged 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She led her team in scoring against France with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed three boards.
