DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman
Catherine Trevors found the back of the net in Dartmouth's 3-1 loss to New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center on Tuesday evening.
The unassisted goal occurred at the seven-minute mark of the third period. The rookie scored her seventh marker of the season on a 2-on-1, intercepting the puck deep in the defensive zone to get the Big Green on the board.
In net, junior
Kayla Wormsbecher played a solid 60 minutes, ending the game with 30 saves, matching her season-high from St. Lawrence less than two weeks ago.
"Again, I thought we played really well today," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "We had a ton of great scoring chances. We're doing so many things right. Our defensive game was really good, especially playing on the big ice. We didn't give them much and I think that's a step in the right direction. We outshot them in the second and won the third. Sydney had a great game in her 100
th and I thought she led the way for us defensively and played a really big game."
UNH (14-12-3) opened scoring at 7:52 of the first period to take a one-goal lead into the intermission. After being outshot, 10-4, in the opening stanza, Dartmouth (5-15-3) led in shots from start to finish in the second, but it was the home team that scored twice to make it a 3-0 game.
After cutting the Wildcats' lead to two early in the second period, the Green kept trying to get another one past Ava Thewes, but the UNH netminder turned the remainder of the shots away. Dartmouth defense worked hard in the final 20 minutes to keep the home team from getting another on the board.
The Wildcats had a 33-22 shot advantage. The Big Green went 0-for-4 on the power play, while UNH went 1-for-5.
Dartmouth will finally play at home this weekend, facing Colgate and Cornell for the second time in the last three weeks.
