HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's tennis rebounded from a dropped doubles point to defeat St. John's, 4-1, at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday evening.
Â
"This was another good test for us tonight against a gritty St. John's team" head coach
Xander Centenari said. "We proved to ourselves that we can still get the job done after losing the doubles point. We had a couple of guys get the job done quickly, which helps the rest of the guys who were in extremely tight battles. Another great team effort leading into next weekend."
Â
A Red Storm win at the No. 1 doubles position and a Big Green victory on court three left the decider down to play on court two.
Charlie Broom and
Pierce Widdecombe played a good match, but were edged, 7-6(11).
Â
That proved to be the only point St. John's (8-2) would get, as Dartmouth (8-0) would go on to win four straight singles matches to claim the victory. Martin tied the score with his win at the No. 2 position, while
Peter Conklin,
Anders Gibbons and a three-setter by Widdecombe wrapped things up nicely.
Â
After playing at home for the last two weeks, the Green will now be on the road until the first week in April. Next up will be the ECAC Indoor Championship. which will now be held at Cornell.
