Dartmouthsports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior … Michael Parsons of the baseball team.
DartmouthSports.com: What is your most memorable on-field team moment?
Michael Parsons: The Miami series my freshman year in 2017, specifically the Michael Ketchmark '17 and Kyle Holbrook '18 back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning of game 1.
DS: And your most memorable on-field individual moment?
MP: I'm cheating on this question because I've got two. Again in the Miami series my freshman year, I threw three perfect innings in only my second career appearance. And my second one being my appearance this year at UVA. After battling a nagging shoulder injury for the majority of the last year it was really special to get out there for one last time on the mound and have success again (especially in the state I grew up in!).
DS: Baseball players are known for nicknames. What is yours on the team and how did you get it?
MP: Pars (just shortened my last name), Big Mike (has got to be ironic), and Woodchip (I have no idea, ask
Nathan Skinner)
DS: Any hidden talents you can share?
MP: I have a good podcast voice. My podcast with
Ben Rice and
Nathan Skinner somehow never got off the ground though.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
MP: I'd probably swap places with
Kolton Freeman '23. He's got three more years at Dartmouth, is a monster athlete, and has the most fun with life in general I've ever seen someone have.
DS: What is your favorite place on campus?
MP: It's got to be the locker room. All the time spent in there experiencing the highs and lows of college baseball with my best friends. Also the countless hours spent playing hacky sack.
DS: What are your plans after Dartmouth (or the spring term in general)?
MP: I will be managing a political campaign in New Hampshire.
Superlatives
Fastest runner on the team: Bryce Daniel
Best overall fielder: Trevor Johnson
Best eye at the plate: Michael Calamari
Best hitter for contact: Michael Calamari
Best hitter for power: Ubaldo Lopez from the right side and
Ben Rice from the left
Best throwing arm (position player): Kolton Freeman or
Trevor Johnson
Most accurate thrower (position player): Trevor Johnson
Best fastball: Nathan Skinner — his fastball has a habit of going fast and moving like a Wiffle ball
Best breaking ball: Austen Michel — his cutter/slider is nasty. Always my least favorite part of catching his flat grounds
Best changeup: Max Hunter — his drops off the table. I've confused it for a breaking ball so many times when charting pitches because of its movement.
Best control: Austen Michel
Best flip player: Myself,
Alec Vaules, or
Austen Michel
Strongest teammate: Logan Adams
Funniest teammate: Nathan Skinner
Most outgoing: Cole Roland and
Kolton Freeman have both never met someone they didn't want to have a conversation with.
Best dresser: Kolton Freeman without a doubt. You never know what he's going to walk into the locker room wearing.
Best player to spend time in the bullpen with: During games, it always fired me up to be down in the bullpen with
Max Hunter. During practice or in between games, being in the bullpen with
Nathan Skinner and
Trystan Sarcone was always a riot.
Best impression of Coach Whalen (will anyone admit to this?): Has got to be either myself or
Austen Michel
