HANOVER, N.H. — The Futures League announced its award winners for the 2020 summer season earlier this week with Dartmouth catcher
Ben Rice being selected as the Most Valuable Player for his play with the Worcester Bravehearts.
Rice, a 6-2, 205-pound rising junior from Cohasset, Massachusetts, led the league with 11 home runs, a .683 slugging percentage and 1.150 OPS. His .350 average was third-best during the 38-game season, as were his 43 hits, 27 RBIs and .467 on-base percentage.
"It felt good to get some good numbers in there," Rice said. "It felt great to play every day … I might have been a bit rusty at first having not faced live pitching for about four months. But after a week or so, I felt more comfortable in the batter's box and at the field. It has been a fun season and I'm glad we're headed to the championship this weekend."
With Rice leading the way, Worcester won the regular season with a 23-15 record, just half a game ahead of the Nashua Silver Knights. The two teams begin a best-of-three championship series tonight in Nashua as the Bravehearts look to defend their 2019 crown.
Summer Update
With a number of collegiate leagues shut down due to COVID-19, there were a few other Big Green players who got an opportunity to compete this summer:

- Junior Justin Murray latched on with the Bravehearts just over a week ago and allowed just one run over three appearances spanning eight innings while striking out 12 without a walk.
- Prior to joining Worcester, Murray played with classmate Bryce Daniel on the Carolina Vipers of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League, posting a 2.57 ERA and 3-1 record in 14.0 innings, striking out 14 and walking four.
- Daniel, meanwhile, hit .239 in 46 at-bats with a pair of home runs and 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
- Also in the SCBL was sophomore right-hander Luke Carpenter with the Carolina Venom, going 2-0 with a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings with 14 strikeouts.
