HANOVER, N.H. – Top seed Dartmouth women's rugby defeated No. 4 Brown in the NIRA Semifinal at Brophy Field on Saturday, 56-5.
With the victory, the Big Green will advance to the final, scheduled for next weekend. The game – which will take place in West Point, New York – will be against No. 3 seed Army, who shocked No. 2 Harvard, 25-17, in their semifinal.
Ten tries were scored by five different players, being led by
Lilly Durbin with four, which was good for 20 points.
Kristin Bitter was close behind with two tries and two conversions for a total of 14 points.
"I'm very proud of the all-around team effort today," head coach
Katie Dowty said. We take a lot of pride in playing with the speed and dynamism we know we are capable of. There were excellent spurts of that today. We couldn't be more excited to be headed to the championship and will prep this week to bring our very best against Army!"
Dartmouth scored six tries in the first half to take a 34-0 advantage to the second.
Sophie Ragg opened scoring at 4:36, making way for Bitter and
Ale Ada to add tries of their own and make it 17-0 by the 20-minute mark.
Durbin scored her first at 25:13, while Bitter had her second of the half three minutes later. One more Durbin try at 30:55 ended the half.
The Bears' only score of the game came at 43:34, but Ada responded with her second of the game less than three minutes later (39-5). Durbin's third and fourth tries came in a two-and-a-half-minute span, and just after the sun came out for the first time,
Nicole Ihensekhien closed scoring at 72:26 (56-5).
