HANOVER, N.H. – The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2021 Sunday morning with former Dartmouth women's assistant coach
Yolanda Griffith one of 16 to earn enshrinement.
Griffith spent two seasons on the Big Green sideline, serving as an assistant under former head coach Chris Wielgus from 2011-13.
Inducted as a player, Griffith was a seven-time WNBA All-Star and won two Olympic gold medals with the United States in 2000 (Sydney) and 2004 (Athens). In 2005, she led the Sacramento Monarchs to a WNBA Championship, while being named to the All-WNBA First and Defensive Teams.
The WNBA Most Valuable Player in 1999, she was also honored as the Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Year as she led the league in field goals, rebounds, offensive rebounds and steals per game in her very first season.
Named one of the top-20 players in WNBA history in 2016 during the league's 20th anniversary celebration, Griffith had already been named to the league's all-decade team in 2006 for its first 10 years of play.
Just two years after retiring from the WNBA and professional basketball in 2009, Griffith began her coaching career at Dartmouth where she was instrumental in the development of the Big Green's post players. Tia Dawson benefited most from Griffith's experience, leading the Ivy League in blocks as a rookie, while third in rebounds. Dawson would lead the Green and White in rebounds both seasons with Griffith as her coach.
Following her time at Dartmouth, Griffith would also go on to coaching stints at Lafayette, UMass, Albany and, most recently, Boston College.
This is her second hall of fame induction as she was also enshrined in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility in 2014.
Griffith will go into the Hall alongside the likes of Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Chris Webber, Jay Wright, Ben Wallace, Bill Russell (coach), Rick Adelman and fellow WNBA All-Star and MVP Lauren Jackson.
