HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth forward
Alex van Schalkwyk was named the Ivy League Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The senior scored in both of the Big Green's victories last weekend, including a 3-2 conference win over Yale.
The senior opened his week with a goal in the 48th minute of Dartmouth's 3-0 win over Hartford on Tuesday, October 11. He put the nonconference match out of reach early in the second half and marked his first goal of the season.
"We are really happy for Alex," Bobby Clark Head Coach of Men's Soccer
Bo Oshoniyi said. "He has worked hard to be in great spots to score goals and I am happy for him and the team that he has been able to find his scoring form."
van Schalkwyk followed up his performance on Tuesday with another goal against Yale in a crucial Ivy League match. He opened the scoring for the Big Green off a pass from
Louis Weisdorf to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth went on to pick up a victory over the bulldogs, its first conference win of the season. van Schalkwyk became the second player to score in back-to-back contests this season as
David Alino found the back of the net in consecutive matches against UAlbany (Sept. 17) and Stonehill (Sept. 24).
The Big Green are back in action this Tuesday, October 18 for a road match against the Vermont Catamounts. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.
Notes: van Schalkwyk is Dartmouth men's soccer's third Ivy League Player of the Week this season. Sophomore
Costi Christodoulou earned POTW honors on September 2 and was followed by senior forward
David Alino on September 26.
