SUNDAY AFTERNOON HOOPS IN HANOVER
The Big Green return to the court after an 11-day hiatus for the third of a four-game homestand, facing Holy Cross Sunday at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth fended off Merrimack's comeback bid to earn a thrilling victory in the final seconds over the Warriors. The Big Green led by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter before Merrimack stormed back to tie the game, 65-65, with 17 seconds remaining. On the Big Green's final possession,
Victoria Page found
Mia Curtis, who spotted up on the right wing and sunk the game-winning 3-pointer with just over four seconds remaining.
ALL-TIME VERSUS HOLY CROSS
The Big Green are 10-6 all-time against the Crusaders. Last season's matchup, a 77-49 road loss for Dartmouth, snapped a four-game winning streak in the all-time series stretching from 2014-17. The two sides met for the first time in 1978 and squared off again the following year, but didn't meet again until 2005, when Dartmouth earned a 74-63 victory.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Coming off a 20-win season that ended in a loss to Columbia in the WNIT, Holy Cross is 3-2 on the young 2022-23 season with wins over Merrimack, New Hampshire and Connecticut College. The Crusaders most recently fell, 52-42, to Boston College despite an efficient 17-point showing from their leading scorer, Lindsay Berger. Holy Cross ranks 31st in the nation and best in the Patriot League in scoring defense, allowing only 52.8 points per game.
CURTIS ANSWERS THE CALL
Even beyond Wednesday night's game-winning trey,
Mia Curtis repeatedly hit key shots to guide the Big Green to their first win of the season. In total, she dropped a team-high 18 points in just 18 minutes and was two shy of tying a career-high. The junior was 3-of-5 from downtown, including the go-ahead triple in the second quarter.
KOCH'S CAREER-HIGH
Senior
Emma Koch cleaned up the boards against Merrimack with a career-high 13 rebounds. She finished three points shy of a double-double, which would've been the second of her career. She earned her first in the second-to-last game of the 2021-22 season with 10 points and 10 boards at Penn.
FREQUENT FREE THROWS
A big part of the win over Merrimack was Dartmouth's frequent, and largely successful, trips to the free throw line. Dartmouth was 23-of-31 in those opportunities and it was the most made free throws in a single game by the Big Green since Nov. 20, 2015 (23 against McNeese State). It's also the second-most made free throws by any team in the Ivy League this season (Columbia's 24 at Memphis).
LOOKING AHEAD
Following Sunday's tilt with the Crusaders, the Big Green are at Leede Arena once again Thursday, Dec. 1 to take on Vermont. The action begins at 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+. Live Stats and an audio broadcast will be available via the Dartmouth Athletics website.
