THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth hits the road to take on Rhode Island in a Friday matinee before returning to Leede Arena Sunday to face New Hampshire. Sunday's game is Big Green Women's Basketball Camp Day, along with Military Appreciation Day.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth led by 13 at halftime against Bryant and looked to be on its way to a quality season-opening win over the Bulldogs, who made a run to the NEC Tournament final last year, but the Big Green surrendered the lead in the third quarter and succumbed to Alana Perkins' 19-point second half onslaught in a 70-63 loss.
Victoria Page led Dartmouth offensively, tying a career-high with 16 points.
Emma Koch scored a career-high 12 and led the team with seven boards.
FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES
Dartmouth only had four players score in double digits once last year (Katie Douglas,
Mekkena Boyd,
Victoria Page and
Carrington Washburn), and that came in a 73-65 loss at Merrimack on Nov. 27, 2021.
Victoria Page (16),
Emma Koch (12),
Mekkena Boyd (11), and
Olivia Lawlor (10) helped Dartmouth achieve that feat in just the first game of the season.
FRESHMEN MAKING AN IMPACT
The Big Green had three freshmen get in the scoring column Monday night, including
Olivia Lawlor, who scored 10. 6-3 forward
Clare Meyer was the lone freshman to crack the starting lineup and posted six points while roaming the paint, and
Anna Nelson added four. Lawlor played the most minutes (23) of any of the newcomers and grabbed five rebounds, including two offensive, to complement her double-digit scoring effort.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The Rams went 22-7 a season ago and are picked to finish third in the Atlantic 10 this time around. They opened their season with an 88-74 loss to Harvard despite a 27-point performance by 6-2 forward Mayé Touré. Another 6-2 forward, Richmond transfer Emma Squires, looks to be a key contributor for the Rams, having earned Preseason All-Conference honors.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
The Wildcats dominated in their season-opening win over Division III Colby-Sawyer on Monday, Nov. 7 as Avery O'Connor's 27 points highlighted an 83-24 triumph. New Hampshire was picked seventh (tied with Bryant) in the America East Preseason Poll after last year's 7-21 record and 4-12 conference mark. They lost their leading scorer from that season, former America East All-Conference honoree Amanda Torres, the only player to average double figures.
FOUR-GAME HOMESTAND UPCOMING
Sunday's game is the first of four straight at Leede Arena for the Big Green. Dartmouth is back in action Wednesday, Nov. 16 to host Merrimack at 6 p.m., then Holy Cross on Sunday, Nov. 27 after an 11-day hiatus. A matchup with Vermont on Thursday, Dec. 1 concludes the homestand before Dartmouth hits the road to take on Siena the following Saturday.
