BEACH CLASSIC
Dartmouth is one of four competitors in the Long Beach Classic, which also features UC Irvine, Southern Mississippi and Long Beach State. The Big Green face the host, Long Beach State, before taking on UC Irvine Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth battled Drexel at home on Tuesday afternoon, but ultimately succumbed to the Dragons, who feature the nation's leading scorer in Keishana Washington, who poured in 32 in the 64-49 decision. The game marked Dartmouth's annual Education Day, which brought more than 1,000 local elementary schoolers to Leede Arena.
PAGE LEADING THE OFFENSE
Sophomore guard
Victoria Page has scored more than 20 points in back-to-back outings. She went for a career-high 25 in a road win over Monmouth on Saturday, Dec. 10 and became the first Dartmouth player with 25 or more in a game since the 2018-19 season. Page led the team with 22 against Drexel on Tuesday.
BIG GREEN IN CALIFORNIA
The Big Green are making their first trip to the Golden State since late November/early December of 2018, when Dartmouth fell to Cal State Fullerton and San Diego in a winless roadtrip that also featured losses to Middle Tennessee and UC Santa Barbara during the Lady Rebel Round-Up in Las Vegas. A win in the Beach Classic would be Dartmouth's first in California since Nov. 29, 2014, when the Big Green defeated Kent State, 60-49, in the closing game of the Cal Poly/ShareSLO Holiday Tournament in San Luis Obispo behind Fanni Szabo's 28 points.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Dartmouth is 0-2 all-time against Long Beach State, and the last meeting was Dec. 16, 2011, which resulted in a 66-52 Beach win. The first meeting, a 109-46 shellacking, took place Dec. 14, 1985. Saturday will be the first-ever meeting of Dartmouth and UC Irvine.
SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE
The Beach are 4-3 and riding a two-game win streak heading into the weekend's action having recently defeated California Baptist and Nevada. Malia Bambrick (13.7), Kianna Hamilton-Fisher (12.4) and Tori Harris (11.1) each average double figures in scoring to lead a well-rounded offense, while the impressive Beach defense ranks 13th in the nation in steals per game with 12.6.
SCOUTING UC IRVINE
The Anteaters are 6-2 following Wednesday's domination of NAIA opponent Westcliff University. UC Irvine's defense is even more tenacious on paper than The Beach's, ranking seventh in the country in steals per game (13.6). Naomi Hunt (11.3) and Diaba Konate (10.8) lead a balanced offense in which four players average eight or more points per game.
HAWKEYES UP NEXT
Dartmouth visits Big Ten country to face Caitlin Clark and No. 12 Iowa on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
